The Training Band meets
for practice every Thursday, from 6.15pm until 7.15pm
prior to the Main Band
rehearsal. Any Training Band members wishing to sit in
with the Main Band are
encouraged to do so once they feel confident.
Younger members normally leave
at 9pm, but ideally should stay till 9.30pm.
The minimum qualification required is
that players must be able to read and play
the scale of C Major. Members are
expected to practise regularly. It will clearly be
an advantage if they are also taking
individual instrumental lessons.
Aims of the Training Band
1. To enable players to make music
in company with others
2. To promote good playing technique
3. To familiarise players with being
conducted.
4. To improve music reading skills
A structured Syllabus has been introduced within the band to encourage
the youngsters to practise for bronze, silver and gold awards.
| Training Band Success.
In January 2010 the Training Band entered the Saltash Festival for the first time
and was awarded a distinction with 87 marks for the two pieces that it played, namely
'Ruby Tuesday' and 'German Dance'. Adjudicator, Caroline Diffley, made some very pleasant
comments, particularly about the cornet playing of Evie Lightbody, and all the players came away
having thoroughly enjoyed the event.
In January 2011 the Training Band again won its class in the Saltash Music and Drama Festival.
